Frequently Asked Questions

End of Life Doula and Sound Therapy – Adelaide, South Australia

What is an End of Life Doula?

An End of Life Doula (sometimes called a Death Doula) offers non-medical support to people nearing the end of life. This includes emotional, practical and spiritual care for both the person and those around them. We help you feel more prepared, supported and connected through the dying process.

What services do you offer?

I offer a range of services including:

  • End-of-life planning and advance care directives
  • Emotional support for individuals and families
  • Legacy projects and life story work
  • Advocacy and guidance through aged or palliative care
  • Sound therapy for relaxation, grief and emotional balance
  • Bucket list travel planning and final journeys

You can find more detail on the Services page. I’m also happy to discuss personalised support options based on your needs.

How does a Doula help during the final stages of life?

As an End of Life Doula, I help prepare the person and their loved ones for what’s ahead. I can:

  • Support the family after the death, including practical steps and referrals
  • Explain signs that someone is nearing death
  • Offer emotional support and calm reassurance
  • Work with you to create a peaceful environment
  • Sit in vigil during the final hours

How is a Doula different from a hospice nurse or carer?

Hospice workers and aged care staff focus on medical or physical care. Doulas offer non-medical support – helping you feel emotionally safe, spiritually supported, and practically prepared.

We often work alongside your existing care team to offer holistic support.

Are End of Life Doulas medical professionals?

No, Doulas are not doctors or nurses. We don’t provide clinical care or make medical decisions. Instead, we complement medical care by focusing on your comfort, choices, and overall wellbeing.

In Australia, End of Life Doulas can now complete accredited training. I have completed both Foundation and Intensive training with Preparing the Way and I am currently studying the Certificate IV in End of Life Doula Services – the first formal qualification of its kind in the world.

Do you support families as well as the person who is dying?

Yes. I support individuals, partners, families and chosen loved ones. Whether it’s emotional guidance, practical help or just a steady presence, I aim to make things easier for everyone involved.

Where do your services take place?

I offer support:

  • At your home
  • In aged care, hospice or hospital settings
  • Via phone or video call (Zoom)
  • In my Flinders Park studio (for sound therapy or planning sessions)

I travel across Adelaide and nearby areas. Mobile services may include a travel fee.

What is Sound Therapy?

Sound Therapy uses Tibetan singing bowls to help calm the nervous system, reduce stress, and restore balance in the body. It’s a gentle, meditative practice that supports emotional wellbeing and deep relaxation.

You can learn more on the What is Sound Therapy? page.

What does a Sound Therapy session involve?

You’ll lie or sit comfortably while I play singing bowls around you or gently on the body. The sound and vibration help clear tension and bring calm. Sessions are available one-on-one or in groups. They’re great for grief, burnout, or simply finding stillness.

Can I buy a Sound Therapy gift certificate?

Yes! You can purchase digital gift certificates online for any amount. They’re ideal for birthdays, carers, or anyone needing a moment of rest. Visit the Gift Certificates page for details.

Do you work with the LGBTQ+ community?

Absolutely. I offer inclusive, culturally safe support for everyone – including LGBTQ+ individuals and families. I’m proud to be part of the community and also a founding member of COTA SA’s Rainbow Horizons Project. I bring lived experience and understanding to this work.

How do I get started?

You can book online, send an email, or give me a call. I offer free 15-minute phone consults to help you decide what’s right for you.
